QUIT BEING A TREND-PRENEUR

At the height of 2008, the diamond fever gripped the nation, and everyone in the hustle game wanted to go to Manicaland to make a fortune. Soon after that, a group of self-proclaimed agricultural experts started training people at a very high price to grow potatoes in sacks. This attracted many loyal followers and suddenly everyone became a farmer. When this trend died yet another emerged. People decided to grow mushrooms anywhere and everywhere. Even tenants converted their rented apartments into mushroom growing facilities. It was only a matter of time. Years later came triple M, some strange software that provided people an opportunity to triple their money. This is not to mention various pyramid schemes that only required you to convince a hundred people to join before you struck gold. Easy enough!

When you hop from one idea to the next at every chance you get you cease being an entrepreneur but you become a trend-preneur. You become no better than a gambler who bets on the chance of a low league football team winning the next match. If you are serious about entrepreneurship then the starting point is a resolute commitment to purpose. Entrepreneurs are in the business of purpose. When one becomes an entrepreneur, they have committed to living a life of purpose to solve a real human problem. It is not just about driving fancy cars and having your own plane. It is a commitment to live your life in a selfless way that will transform humanity. When you focus on amassing tonnes of wealth you easily lose sight of that which matters. You lose sight of your only gateway to the wealth you so desperately crave. Trend-preneurs are guided by greed. They want the easiest way out of lack. They jump on any new idea and abandon the former. Due to this reality they never fully develop a product. They are always trapped in the myriad of mediocre.

The vast majority of entrepreneurs I have spoken with are all guided by their purpose. Their eyes are on the ball. They know that even if a man discovers a way to make hundreds of thousands trading foreign currencies online, they will not be swayed. These are the men and women with the painful patience of true entrepreneurship.

Let’s Keep Walking the Talk……..
